This Adirondack Chair is of the Canadian variety called a Muskoka Chair. A Muskoka chair is simply a different version of an Adirondack chair made popular in the Muskoka region of Ontario Canada.
The most noticeable difference between an Adirondack chair and Muskoka chair has more to do with the more rustic style and price. The Muskoka chair typically does not fold and has additional structural pieces (ie: a back brace piece that goes from the back all the way down to the leg) giving it a more hearty structure able to handle the additional weight loads of a heavy winter snow.
In addition because these Muskoka chairs were left out all year long at the cottage it was important that they be not only durable but economical. Where as the Adirondack chair was designed for use in your home outdoor living entertainment the Muskoka chair was typically used less frequently at cottages and summer vacation homes but they were also more exposed to the elements as they were rarely stored away in the winters.
Here are a few of the details we modified to accommodate exactly what our family and friends wanted in a Muskoka chair:
Light weight – since these Muskoka chairs don’t fold it was important that they be light enough to move around without being too light.
They wanted a durable chair that could take weathering well
They wanted the option of different finishes so we made this Muskoka chair available in three different options:
Unstained – this unstained Muskoka chair can be used as is and will eventually turn a silvery grey color like driftwood OR you can paint your Muskoka chair any color you like or personalize it with your own unique design for a gift or special event
Painted White – the painted white Adirondack chair is a favorite among many people so we gave the same option of a painted white Muskoka chair. Just assemble and use, no finishing required we do it for you!
Painted Brown – the painted brown Muskoka chair takes on that rustic country charm with a nice contrast to any landscape. Again just assemble and use, it is already finished!
Here are just a few more of the reasons why our Muskoka chair is different from the rest:
Solid construction doesn’t wobble
The back is gently curved to support your spine while eliminating pressure points without being curved too much which would cause your shoulders to hunch forward straining your spine – in other words it’s a perfect fit!
The seat is gently curved to support your body weight without undue pressure to your tailbone or thighs which can cause your legs and feet to painfully fall asleep. Our adirondack chair is ergonomically designed to supports you without pressure points!
The seat front curves down instead of a hard edge so there are NO pressure points behind the knees that cause painful leg cramps and pins and needles in the feet.
The original muskoka chair was designed so that the seat sat level if you put it on a hill; the problem was if you put it on level ground the seat was nearly impossible to get out of because of the extreme incline. Our muskoka chairs have been modified so that you can gently recline on level ground giving you the benefit of lounging while making it possible so you can get out of the chair when you need to.
We use FSC certified Fir Wood for this specific muskoka chair (Fir is a species of Pine) – it is a soft wood that is both economical, lightweight and easily sanded to remove any scratches caused by wear and tear over the years making it ideal for a summer cottage or vacation home.
Big wide level arms give you plenty of space for setting down your drink or favourite book.
Our muskoka chair is NOT pressure treated – meaning no toxic chemicals have been added to preserve the wood making it safe for your family to enjoy.
This muskoka chair is solidly constructed of FSC certified Fir wood. Each piece of fir is kiln dried, cut, sanded, and then pre-assembly process. For the Muskoka chairs ordered painted white or brown each piece goes through an extensive painting process. We prime each piece using Becker Acroma primer making sure the coat goes on with no bubbles, no blisters, no scratches, no peel, no overrunning at the edges and no surface roughness. Once dry each piece is then sanded to a very fine finish (240 grit abrasive) then cleaned and a beautiful topcoat of Becker Acroma is applied. Please note that fir wood that has been painted will last just as long as cedar adirondack chairs.
The hardware we use for this chair is weather resistant yellow zinc plated hardware. Once completed every piece is carefully inspected for quality and then well packed for damage free shipping.
