CAPE COD CHAIR WHITE FOLDING (HIGH END ADIRONDACK CHAIR)
Unlike the Adirondack chair which is recognized from the Adirondack Mountains region – the Cape Cod chair is the very essence of waterfront living. This is a high end Adirondack chair seen in the more expensive resorts and villas. The main difference between the Adirondack chair and the Cape Cod chair is the weight. The Cape Cod chair is made of a denser heavier hardwood so that chairs left on windy waterfront decks don't get blown over as easily.
Our Cape Cod chair shares many of the same great characteristics of our traditional white adirondack chairs which includes:
- Stronger - than the traditional softwood Adirondack Chair to resist more denting so we made ours with a durable hardwood comparable to oak or maple
- Heavier – they are less likely to get blown around in windy locations
- Screws are hidden - we drilled long holes from underneath the seat, from the backside of the back, and underneath the arms so that the hardware does not mar the finished beauty of the Adirondack chair
- Painted white so we found a hardwood that took paint well keepings its finish longer
- We use a white paint finish that won't turn yellow over time. We tested and researched different finishes until we found the perfect white paint finish for this hardwood cape cod chair using White Akzo Nobel.
- Stainless steel hardware which outlasts other hardware metals in the harsh salt air locations. Salt air is known for eating through most galvanized finishes so stainless steel is the only hardware we recommend for water front property locations.
In addition to those features here are just a few more of the reasons why our Cape Cod chair is different from the rest:
- Folding adirondack chair for easier storage
- The back is gently curved to support your spine while eliminating pressure points without being curved too much which would cause your shoulders to hunch forward straining your spine – in other words it's a perfect fit!
- The seat is gently curved to support your body weight without undue pressure to your tailbone or thighs which can cause your legs and feet to painfully fall asleep. Our adirondack chair is ergonomically designed to supports you without pressure points!
- The seat front curves down instead of a hard edge so there are NO pressure points behind the knees that cause painful leg cramps and pins and needles in the feet.
- The original adirondack chair or cape cod chair was designed so that the seat sat level if you put it on a hill, the problem was if you put it on level ground the seat was nearly impossible to get out of because of the extreme incline. Our cape cod chairs have been modified so that you can gently recline on level ground giving you the benefit of lounging while making it possible so you can get out of the chair when you need to.
- All screws and bolts are inserted from the back and underside – this means is, no screws showing on Top to lessen the beauty of these chairs.
- Because all the screws are either under the chair or imbedded behind the chair they are not exposed directly to the elements meaning that the stainless steel hardware will last even longer.
- Because there are no screws on the surface the wood finish is not compromised which helps to keep the finish lasting longer .
- The widest part of the back is bevelled like glass so that the finish doesn't get damaged when folding and unfolding the chair.
- The back is not only braced with a solid wood brace but under the brace is a metal brace to give additional support to the structure and to minimize wobbling which is common in folding chairs of this nature.
- This cape cod chair is heavier than most traditional Adirondack chairs (it is even heavier than our best selling white adirondack chair) – this is due to the more dense hardwood chosen for this specific chair. The additional weight is an added bonus on decks where high winds can move or flip furniture.
- Our Cape Cod chair is NOT pressure treated – meaning no toxic chemicals have been added to preserve the wood.
This cape cod chair is solidly constructed of Alder hardwood. When painted with a quality finish the Alder is sealed to last many decades of use.
Alder shares the same characteristics of oak including its heavy weight, dense durable wood grain, and exceptional use. Like oak and maple the alder is a very stable wood meaning that even in the harshest salt air conditions warping and twisting isn't an issue. It is known for keeping its shape making it ideal for ocean front use.Like all of our wood products Alder hardwood is FSC certified meaning it is a natural renewable resource specifically grown for lumber (preserving both old growth forests & wildlife).
Each piece of Alder hardwood is kiln dried, cut, sanded, and then goes through an extensive painting and assembly process. We prime each piece making sure the coat goes on with no bubbles, no blisters, no scratches, no peel, no overrunning at the edges and no surface roughness. Once dry each piece is then sanded to a very fine finish (240 grit abrasive) then cleaned and a beautiful coat of White Akzo Nobel .
The hardware we use for this chair is all weather resistant stainless steel hardware . Once completed every piece is carefully inspected for quality and then well packed for damage free shipping.
Please note that due to the size and weight of this cape cod chair it is shipped partially assembled with easy to follow assembly instructions that take approximately 45 minutes to complete. We do provide an Allen key for assembly but you will still need your own Philip screwdriver to complete the assembly.
